And now onto the match reports (Sorry they’re a bit late) from the weekend’s games!!! Four games, three wins, so not too shabby Thunder!
First up, Rebecca Fitch’s report from the 1s –
The firsts were challenged by the mighty Fishers on Saturday. Kingfisher are mid table and us Thunderers knew that we could cause a bit of a rumble on the court for this match. The match started, and Thunder went strike for strike with Kingfisher. Unfortunately, half way through the first half, we lost our lightening focus for a period, meaning we finished the first half 6 down. It’s a tough one to come back from and it definitely challenged our mental toughness; but we came into the second half, lightening at the ready. The game was quite heated, with decisions being argued with the ref and a fair amount of stormy action on the court. We just couldn’t catch back up, our electricity went static in attack for a bit and we finished the game 29-17. Plenty to learn from, and every game we’re developing even further. Onwards and upwards for our game against Birmingham on Sunday 🙌🏻
Next up, Anna Howbrook for the mighty 4s –
A great win again this week, final score 11-9. Was a close game before half time drawing 6-6 but in the second half we defended well and didn’t give Bristol City too many opportunities so took lead.
Big thanks to Lexi for playing at such short notice (again!) and scoring an amazing long shot! And to Sophie Higgins and Justin Dean for coaching.
MVPs Russ Trueman and Anna
Another win from the almighty 3s with Tom Franks –
The thirds beat Exeter Uni 24-5 in a pretty comprehensive win! Again we were great in defence and scored some nice goals but definitely still some things to work on when we are attacking, despite Samuel Luke going into feed or collect more than once in the game. MVPs were Sophie Higgins and Stephen Wood. Massive thanks again to Ellie for stepping in and Rohanna Morris for playing through illness. We are already halfway through the season and things are looking good with us 6 points clear at the top of the league and being the only team with a positive goal difference!
And finally….. Alex Webb WITH A WIN FOR THE SECOND TEAM!
Christmas came early for the seconds today as we beat Bristol uni 11-18!!!! We have finally broken our duck! Thanks to Jake Cooper for coaching and all of the support. For the third week in a row well done to MVP Roxy Gregory! It is our last match with the amazing Heidi Paton as she moves to instructing Dave Patonfrom the sideline rather than on the pitch!! So proud of everyone as we end 2018 on a high. I’m sure the wins are going to keep coming in 2019!!!
